Rejvíz Nature Reserve is a protected peat bog area known for its unique subalpine peatland ecosystem and rich biodiversity, offering serene walking trails and opportunities to observe rare flora and fauna.
Rejvíz Nature Reserve is located in the Hrubý Jeseník mountain range in the Czech Republic and protects one of the largest preserved peat bog complexes in the country. Situated at an elevation of around 900 meters, the reserve features a landscape dominated by peat bogs, small lakes, and wetlands formed during the last Ice Age. This ecosystem supports specialized plant species, such as Labrador tea, cloudberry, and various Sphagnum moss species, alongside unique animals including the endangered moor frog and numerous bird species like black grouse and cranes.
The area is historically significant for its long-standing protection status since its establishment in 1955, reflecting early conservation efforts in Central Europe. A well-maintained network of wooden boardwalk trails and observation towers allows visitors to explore the fragile peatlands without disturbing the habitat. Key recreation includes easy hiking around the Jezerní moor, birdwatching, and nature photography. The reserve is also part of the Jeseníky Protected Landscape Area, which broadens its ecological importance.
Visitors are drawn to the Rejvíz peat bog’s enchanting atmosphere, quiet forest surroundings, and the chance to explore a rare natural environment that has remained relatively untouched. The wooden pathways offer an accessible experience even for families and casual hikers. Interpretive signs throughout the trails provide educational insights into the bog’s natural history and conservation challenges. Wildlife sightings are common in early morning or twilight hours, making it a prime location for nature enthusiasts.
